This is a funny topic and I’m actually kind of embarrassed making this post about it because I’ve had a whole lot of failed new year resolutions that I even stopped counting. But there’s no need for any of us to feel embarrassed right? I mean I’m trying to help you through my experiences and you’re here because you need help sticking to your most recent new year’s resolution. So why don’t we just abandon the formalities and get down to it?
1. Make Monthly or Quarterly Resolutions instead of yearly resolutions.
Okay, we get it. You’re about 80kg this year and you want to be exactly 60kg by the end of the year? Great goal! I want to be 60kg too by next year! How about we divide that 20kg you want to lose by 12? Huh?
20/12= 1.7 Wow! That’s amazing! So, if we only lose exactly 1.7kg every month and calculate it correctly, we would’ve gotten rid of the extra weight by the end of the year.
How about those books you wanted to write, what if you just pick one and focus on it every day for three to four months? Believe me, you will eventually finish that book and move on to the next one!
2. Write it down!
The importance of writing things down can never be overemphasized. These are a few reasons why you should write that goal down!
- Writing down your goals brings your vision into reality
- You can track your progress when you write your goals down
- It helps remind you that you should be doing something
3. Anticipate Problems
I’m sure you know that things won’t be totally smooth, right? Get back on track when you slip up, don’t give up on your whole new year plan just because of one measly mistake, or two, or 100! Just don’t! It’s a whole big year, you have the chance to make a thousand errors and correct them in one million ways. Stick with what works and don’t rely totally on others. You’ve got this!
4. Don’t talk about it!
I know this is weird but I don’t believe you should tell people about your new year’s resolution, it should be personal. People hinder each others progress a lot! Mistakes are inevitable and more often than not, people will laugh at you for slacking, this will make you sad and you’ll probably eventually just stop altogether.
I believe it’s better they just get shocked at your amazing results without actually knowing that its a resolution.
5. Believe in Yourself;
You’ve got this. You can do this.
Training your mind is of utmost importance because if you believe you will fail, you will definitely fail and vice versa. People with lesser capabilities are out there doing amazing things because they believed they could but you’re sitting down doing nothing, wondering if you could actually go that far?
Oh, you beautiful, handsome, wonderful being! Get up and start something! You’d never know until you try. And keep trying until you win.
YOU WILL GET THERE.
Apply these tips and get back to me with your success stories! Even if you aren’t able to perfect your plans, I totally get it and I’d like to know what made you finally give up and how we can correct it for the next year’s resolution.
